Dev Diary #005 – Birth Haven Details Part 1
Do you want the good news or the bad news first? We’ve faced so many different challenges on our journey so far.
Anyone who has spoken with me in the past six years is probably sick and tired of hearing one particular word: insurance. Indemnity insurance has historically been the #1 roadblock to independent midwifery practice. It is illegal to facilitate births without insurance in the EU. Good news! Two options now exist, available to midwives who want to practice independently in Ireland.
The second roadblock is the education, recruitment and retention of caseloading midwives. Caseloading, complete care following a woman throughout her pregnancy, birth, and postnatal, is a dream come true for an independent midwife. The issues with caseloading have been mostly to do with business administration, a supportive governance structure and enough time off call to prevent burnout. We feel our years of experience operating a successful independent caseloading model will attract midwives to be a part of this essential project.
In order to start taking clients, we need your help. (See it’s not really bad news!) Each share, comment, like and conversation you can have brings us one step closer to finding the right team of midwives. Please take one minute now to invite friends to join our journey. And watch out for more Birth Haven updates daily.
